If pictures tell a thousand words then the photos best describe this visit. The market was a throng of people buying their daily vegetables, fruit and fish. The shouts of the stall vendors reminded me of my early teenage years when I used to do the weekly shop in the local Market. Each stallholder, as today, had their own speciality so you went to one stall for the best salad produce, another for fruit and another for vegetables. You had to do your research too to get the best prices!
Despite the throng nobody pushed passed and if they did they would always smile and say hello, some in English and some in Burmese.
One feature to point out is the traditional yellow makeup worn by the women, made from the ground up bark of the thanaka tree and said to be good for the skin and protection against the sun.
As local markets in the world go this one proved to be one of the best I have visited; I felt very safe and welcomed and privileged to experience the daily life of Myanmar.
