Sunday 16th February 2014: GMT + 8hrs Singapore Trishaw Ride: A Visit to Little India & That Building Again!!

The final form of transport today was a Trishaw ride – rather more sophisticated then in Myanmar – with blaring ‘rap’ music with the most distasteful lyrics (If you can call them that) I have heard in a long time.

The main purpose of this ride was to visit the narrow streets of Little India, a big change form the slick high-rise buildings and more like an Indian Street.  It is in fact home to the 200,000 or so Indian, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan migrant, construction workers.

A glutton for punishment, once back at the ship I took the shuttle bus into the Shoppes at Marina Bay shopping mall.   A mistake really but interesting to see since this vast shopping Mall was similar to those I had visited in Dubai full of designer label clothes, handbag, jewellery and watch boutiques – all very empty apart from snappily bored looking shop-assistants.  Like Dubai the prices were astronomical but they must make money!

The Mall is on 3 levels with a canal in the basement and a huge food court that was heaving with families eating every kind of food imaginable.  After three circuits of this food court I eventually found a coffee stall and ordered a latte and an almond muffin and then sidled-off to find somewhere to sit and enjoy my refreshment.

I leave you with one last picture of the Gardens by the Bay in the fading light and a display at the base of… and yes you guessed - that Flying Boat Building as I waited for the shuttle back to the ship.
