Thursday 27th February 2014: GMT + 9hrs Japan Hiroshima: The Path To Peace

Across the river, and in a straight line from the A Bomb Dome to the fountains in front of the Peace Memorial Museum, lies the ‘Path to Peace’ (See photos).

An ‘eternal flame’ flares in front of the stone/marble casket protected by a dome of stone; the casket contains the names of all the victims of the bomb, including the Father of our Tour Guide who survived until 3 years ago, as will be the names of all other registered survivors when they pass away.

Our guide told us that the aim is to extinguish the flame when all nuclear weapons are destroyed. I prefer to believe the flame, like all eternal flames will remain alight to remind us of the suffering of so many.
