Saturday 1st March 2014: GMT + 9hrs Japan Yokohama: Another Rousing Brass Band Welcome

Another rousing welcome form a college brass band on a misty and much colder (8C) Saturday morning to Yokohama, our second and last port of call in Japan.  No thermal cameras today so disembarkation was swift and I was soon on my bus Bound for the Tokyo Edo Museum, a Japanese lunch, a garden – although I will be able to name this garden – a Buddhist & Shinto Temple and fridge magnet heaven (!) in a local handicraft market.

First a few words about Yokohama, the capital of Kanagawa Prefecture (There 47 Prefectures in total) and the second largest city in Japan by population after Tokyo. It lies on Tokyo Bay, south of Tokyo in the Kantõ region of the main island of Honshu (See map photo).

The Landmark Tower (See photo) is the tallest building in Japan at 296 metres and has the world’s fastest lifts. Sadly we were not back until early evening so I had no chance of sampling the lifts but I gathered from fellow passengers that it was too misty to afford a view.
